I watched the recent testimonies to congress made by various VSO's, VFW, DAV, ect...and one problem kept being bought up was train the raters on GW
Veterans. They proposed a few things to get them to recognize and follow laws already passed by Congress....is it me or am I missing something..they are right there, representing us...why do they sit there and let it happen? What do they do for Veterans really?

I think the question should be " why is it that some Gulf War Vets receive compensation for sleep apnea, and some don't?"...These high tech studies should reviel this to us, or is it the way we go by requesting assistance? I would really like to know the answer and what is it those of us who continue to be turned down have to do.

"Our findings in this pilot study suggest that nasal CPAP may greatly improve symptoms in veterans with GWI and sleep disordered breathing"

Ya think?..That same information could have been achieved from any VA hospital...Sleep Lab....Wonder why the local V.A. hospitals don't offer up some of their result studies..in particular, sleep lab results. Technology is there, and money can be saved...Those results have been known since "Sleep Apnea" was first diagnosed in man.

Here is an interesting study by VA concerning Gulf War Vets and Sleep Apnea:

Well, some of get compensation and assistance for sleep apnea, and some of us dont...I didnt know anyone on active duty with sleep apnea when I was in...We all got it after we left the sand box.. It absolutely should be included in presumptive...I may be wrong but as a suffer of sleep apnea I would say it is a sleep disorder...probably the worse sleep disorder you can have.

True, For sure we got it, and it's Gulf War related...just by virtue of all the topics that mention it...Combine them or at least put them in order next to each other...

I concur fully with the below. I have had sleep apnea for many years...denied, told no such word as "Gulf War Illness", insulted and made to feel it was all in my head. The equipment it takes to get a good nite sleep is expensive. We need help, we need swift decissions, not the 4-5 years it takes for a claim to move from one phase to the next. Heaven forbid your claim goes to the "Board of Appeals"...That's the last you will see it...I filed for sleep apnea (Gulf War related) in 2008..so go figure...I have no regreats for the Service I gave to my Country, and if asked I would do it again unconditionally...just need some assistance with my sleep apnea.

Gettng the word out? Communicating with the Gulf War Vets? Wasn't the last report suspose to guarentee an easier way for the GW Vet to find help...reaching out to the Vets?..This forum has turned into a place to come seek help instead of a place where we can suggest better ways the VA can help us...(Same thing last year). Read through, and you will find Veterans looking for places they can go for help...This would not be happening if these facilities respected dirrectives to learn about GW Vets, and instead of sending them away...helping them. The VA is responsible for insuring VA hospitals understand and are prepared to help GW Vets.

I have sleep apnea and it has been at the bva since 2009 because the va said it's not gulf war related and since I filed so late after I got out of the Army...I didnt get it there...How did I know I had sleep apnea, or what it was? Someone had to tell me, and I had to believe it, and had to have a sleep
Someone needs to tell these raters sleep apnea is sleep problems. We have tonuse a machine nightly to sleep.

Huuum, makes me wonder why even send this out for our comments. Why envlove the GW Vet if it has no meaning. We say how we feel, and what we need to happen, and if anything is changing I'm not seeing or feeling it. Why even have this forum...just do what's been being done (not much) and tell us about it. This is getting to be more of a "You didn't do this yet", than a way for us to voice our oppenions. We don't need justification for the Millions being spent over and over with no fact finding results. How much "Scientific Review" does it take before we can get some help?

Agree! One way could be, make sure our claims dont go down a black hole and accumilate dust for years...dont put us on hold and say you have no idea when this type claim will be processed because of the difficulty....or some excuse to justify the years of waiting...appoint a team to process gw vet claims....not unimaginable. Put something in place to insure our claims are processed and granted or denied in a reasonable amount of time.

There was so much going on, like burn pits...who didn't get involved in that? How about desalmonized water? How about this one...my unit went the intire time after we left tent city, without fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs....everyone lost so much weight...then the spent uranium shells...I sent VA copy of my letter stating I was in the area when the Kashmiri explosion happened, and I remember that day....all these factors, everyone knows are true, are the reason we are sick...days without sleep, then when you finally can get some, either the flies (another thing left out) bite you awake, or someone is startling you out of a deep sleep moving at breakneck speed cause a Scud is comming...It makes me sick to think of it...and there is more that went down over in the sand box, home comming
