Leishmaniasis is diagnosed by detecting Leishmania parasites (or DNA) in tissue specimens—such as from skin lesions, for cutaneous leishmaniasis (see instructions), or from bone marrow, for visceral leishmaniasis (see note below)—via light-microscopic examination of stained slides, molecular methods, and specialized ...
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is found in parts of the tropics, subtropics, and southern Europe. It is classified as a neglected tropical disease (NTD). Leishmaniasis is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of phlebotomine sand flies.
Leishmaniasis is a treatable and curable disease, which requires an immunocompetent system because medicines will not get rid of the parasite from the body, thus the risk of relapse if immunosuppression occurs. All patients diagnosed as with visceral leishmaniasis require prompt and complete treatment.
Antiparasitic drugs, such as amphotericin B (Ambisome), treat this condition. Your doctor may recommend other treatments based on the type of leishmaniasis you have. -

Hello Dawn, have you called to check on your records request? It should not take a year, if the records you are requesting are housed by the VA. Contact the hospital administrator and ask for assistance after you've checked back with the Release of Information section, ask for the supervisor.
I also have a rash.

Spent 2 1/2 years in the gulf during Desert storm and Shield. The rash started on the bottoms of my legs only, thought maybe it was the detergent so we changed. The VA has been looking at it for about 10 years now, 3 patch test later and they still have no clue. They have given me a number of different medicines which if they help only work for maybe a few months and the rash comes back worse. The rash is now over 80 percent of my body and does it itch. The doctors at the VA in DC are not giving up they keep on trying new things so I am grateful for that I just wish someone could fix it

I have found a company that has an all natural line of skin care products that is working for many vets that have skin issues. I also found a discount code for them to save 10% - code: SEAWEED for online orders.
Give them a try as they also have a 100% money back guarantee which is strong. I hope this helps. Please share this with as many veterans as you can because this stuff works and there are a lot of vets out there that have given up hope.

Hi Everyone! I am friend of a national guard member who has this mystery rash. I about to graduate as a nurse practitioner and I cannot figure this rash out. It didn't make any sense until he told me he was in the area that the government is publicly saying it used depleted uranium. I can't find any pictures of rashes of people with depleted uranium pictures to compare it to. Is it possible any of you could send me pictures of your rashes so I could see if it is the same thing? I don't need your faces in the picture. You can email me from an anonymous account if you prefer that. I just want to help him and the VA here is useless. It has made the national news for its scandals recently, so you know he won't find help there.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

I've had this rash off and on since I've been back from the Strom. It would come and go, so I never thought anything about it. Now It has came back and will not go away. It's covered my whole back, shoulders, and chest. I've never had it documented simply because I don't want to fight with the VA. I was with A Trp 2/1 Cav attached to 1/7 Cav, 1st Cav Division. My believe is, it has to do with the shots and other drugs they MADE us take to protect our health. The other thing about this rash is that it's a constant itch.

OIF 3 Army Vet, I noted skin rashes during and after deployment, its been 9 yrs and still ongoing. Both forarms break out- and my entire body is covered in red colored freckles. Went to another new Derm Doc who scheduled me for further byopsy. His initial assesment is a form of skin cancer.......possibly from the burn pits? Insecticide ? I have a pending claim with the VA .

Yes. Skin rashes are real. I take pictures and take them to the doctors. I have been fortunate to have the rash when I go to the doctors and they take pictures and send them to a specialist in Seattle. They wanted to give me Prednisone, twice the dose as normal folks as the guy in pharmacy put it and he couldn't beleive they were doing this to me along with some other meds. Well, I read about it all and found out it can cause cancer and lymphoma and other bad stuff didn't take it. I already had cancer since the Gulf War and don't want it again. I tried using silver water from water oz and it helped take it away. I get it back but not like it was and I have a good creme that helps with it. But if that stuff doesn't work try the silver water. It is real! Sometimes I can itch and I don't have a rash. It is like being in ecstacy when making love before gulf war illness was present.

I also had a skin rash coming back from Desert Storm. I went to the VA and had numerous apts. When I came back from deployment to OIF the reash reappeared. The first rash from Desert Storm I had for many many years, It would start under the skin and erupt and my skin would turn like a hard plastic and crack. happens on both arms from my elbows down. Was 88m in both deployments. When I came back this time I was told I cold reopen the old case. Problem is the VA says they have no records of my previous claim. I wish I had the forsight to take pics of the rash but I trusted (LOL) the VA and the Government to take care of me honestly. Feel totally screwed for the second time, this time I have come back with hearing loss and they have given me a 0% dissability even though 88 mic hearing problems are severe. So I am a Desert Storm/OIF vet, still in the Army Reserve that is deaf and have rashes, but the Army has no blame or records of anything LOL Please make sure everyone makes there own written and picture records. DON'T TRUST ANYONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF.

For those of you intrested the government needs to set up a visual research database including ALL VETERANS claiming Gulf War Illness unfortuantely some deployed veterans such as myself are being denied opporutinty to join research programs. Politics play a huge role in this issue keep that in mind.

The skin problems show that something real is going on in Desert Storm veterans. The problem lies in that propganda is being used by the US government to say only certain veterans got sick to avoid placing blame with the US government where it lies.

I have huge knots that are coming in on my left side. (Two on my knee and two on my arm). That is in addition to the constant rash. The VA Derm. told me it was some form of rare juvinile skin cancer that can't be cured. When I told him it was getting worse, he said that was impossible because it didn't fit with his diagnosis.

If you have rashes, take pictures, get biopsied. go to www.mayocliniclaboratories.com, type on type of test, esp gadolinium. I'll bet you've have MRI scans, with contrast. Search it. have your renal function tested eGFR, not just creatinine. Need testing for connective tissue diseases. They are lying to you. See national jewish health.org, resp and skin sx are connected diseases. Stop suffering, get help. search gadolinium toxicity. Please!
